WHAT ARE WE DOING TO STOP CANCER

In addition to treating breast cancer, Dr. Goodson and his colleagues are working to find out how to stop breast cancer before it starts.

With Dr. Shanaz Dairkee and the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, he actively conducts research on environmental chemicals.

Working together they have shown that BPA causes normal, non-cancerous human breast cells to turn on genes like aggressive breast cancer and that BPA and methylparaben cause normal cells to grow inappropriately, a hallmark change that is associated with cancer.

In follow up studies, they have shown that mixtures of BPA, methylparaben, and perfluoroctanoic acid (PFOA) have more effects in the mixture than do the same chemicals by individually
